Reclamation
Story
Reclamation is a love letter to the woman's body and a glimpse into my journey of self-love. The exhibition stands as a challenge to society's viewpoints and as a reminder to (Black) women that our bodies can be fully loved by us, for us. Our strength, resilience, and essence does not lose value if we embrace nudity. We are Godly here, now, and forever.

Growing up in a liberated household, I saw the body through a unique lens. My mom embraced her naked body and never once hid it from me. She used to say, "we got the same part" and would carry on with ease. Naturally, being her daughter, I followed in her footsteps, embracing the softness of nudity. Never once did we sexualize each other or ourselves. We simply existed. However, as I got older, I learned that society did not welcome my nudity unless it was within their context. It is okay for my body to be sexualized, but it's not okay for me to express my body in any other way. Why is that? Who determined the ways in which I could express the love for my body to the world? I most certainly did not give anyone permission to police my body, nor did I ask for their opinion, laws, and ideals. My body is not a sexual object. It is power and beauty. It holds stories, my curves, and my scars. It is valuable to my essence, liberation, and healing.
